We have already established what a drone is in our previous blog. Now let’s talk about the uses of drones in diverse fields. In this particular blog, we will talk about agricultural drones and their uses.

What is an Agricultural Drone?

An agricultural drone lets the farmer see the field from the sky. It is applied to farming in order to help increase crop production and monitor crop growth. This drone has sensors and digital imaging capabilities which provides useful information to the farmer in improving crop yields and farm efficiency.

Uses of Agricultural drones:

  • Can be used for surveying and collecting data. Thus, a drone with a high-quality camera will be required to enable real-time monitoring
  • Can be used for CROP DUSTING which involves spraying crops with crop protection products and planting of certain types of seed
  • Can be used for AERIAL TOPDRESSING which involves specific spreading of fertilizer over the field
  • Thermal imaging enabled drones can help farmers identify well-watered regions on the farm
  • Issues arising from soil erosion and damage can be prevented with help of imaging technologies and sensors
  • An agricultural drone is also great for identifying types of pests and which parts of the farm are being affected

While agricultural drones have their amazing benefits, they do come with certain limitations of their own. For starters, the initial purchasing cost of a drone runs quite high. Most of the drones have a short flight time of between 20 minutes to an hour. This limits flight time and the distance that it can cover in such limited time. Also, the drone is very weather dependent. On extremely windy or rainy days, it may not be possible to fly the drone.

Every technology comes with its pros and cons but the drone technology most definitely offers more pros than the cons.

That’s a wrap on the agricultural drone. We will discuss the uses of drones in media in our next blog!
